Native Plants for
Ecological Restoration

and Resilient Communities

What We Do

Our work is grounded in a genuine belief that healthy ecosystems and healthy communities are built the same way: carefully, with the right material, in the right place.

Native Plants for Ecological Restoration

Native Plants for Ecological Restoration

We grow native plants for ecological restoration. This includes sedges, rushes, native grasses, riparian shrubs, and flowering perennials, which are contract-grown to the specific species and quantities your project requires.

Retail Plants for Local Gardeners

We produce native plants for local gardeners and pollinator gardens along with a limited selection of regionally adapted vegetable and herb starts suited to high-altitude growing.

Ecological Design Consultation

Ecological Design Consultation

Need help planning?  We offer ecological consulting services including site assessments, revegetation planning, and species selection support for public agencies, conservation organizations, restoration contractors, and private landowners.

We can help you identify site constraints, build a planting strategy, and source the right material for a successful project.

Support for Local Food Systems

We don't just work to restore landscapes; we also support people.

We donate a portion of our vegetable production to broaden food access through local partnerships in service of our mission to strengthen food systems and cultivate community.

If you or someone you know are in need, or if you know of an organization we could support, please let us know!

About Yarrow & Roots

At Yarrow & Roots, we believe that the most resilient landscapes begin with plants grown close to home. By prioritizing hyper-local sourcing, we give restoration projects a head start by providing plants that are already adapted to our unique climate.

Our plants are cultivated right here in the Upper Arkansas Valley, allowing them to develop a natural high-altitude hardiness that promotes exceptional survival rates and vibrant, long-term growth. This local-first approach maximizes plant health and helps your landscape thrive from the very first day it’s in the ground!

Why use location grown plants?

Why it matters where your plants are grown

Growing in Chaffee County is central to what we do.
Yarrow & Roots produces native plants at elevation under the same short seasons, intense sun, and wide temperature swings that define the landscapes we're restoring. Since they’re adapted to local conditions, these plants establish better, perform longer, and support ecological resilience.

We're a small, local operation by design. That means flexible contract grows, responsive communication, and a level of technical engagement that larger regional suppliers aren't able to offer.

We're not a commodity nursery, we're a project partner.

Our Founder

My name is Lauren Duncan

I founded Yarrow & Roots to cultivate resilience within our landscapes and our community.

After years of small-scale growing and hands-on work in ecological restoration, environmental science, and mining remediation, I believe that healthy plants and healthy food are the essential foundations for both a thriving environment and the people who call it home.

Our Mission

At Yarrow & Roots, we cultivate regionally adapted plants in order to restore Colorado’s landscapes and support resilient mountain communities.

We are committed to ecological integrity, local adaptation, and community connection. Our work aims to increase the availability of plants that strengthen watershed health, habitat, and local food systems.

Guided by a long-term vision for Colorado’s beloved landscapes, we are driven to serve restoration practitioners, land stewards, and communities across the Rocky Mountains by providing locally grown plants that support healthy, resilient ecosystems.
